In the south of Morocco, there lived a spirited 12-year-old girl named Lamiaa. Lamiaa was known for her bright eyes, her infectious laughter, and her deep love for her family and friends. But she carried a unique challenge with her, she was deaf. At midnight on Sep 9th, an unexpected disaster struck. An earthquake rattled the region, leaving destruction and chaos in its wake. Lamiaa’s world, which was already challenging, turned upside down. In the midst of this terrifying ordeal, Lamiaa felt sheer panic. Unable to hear the sounds of warning and unable to understand the chaos around her, she was engulfed in fear and confusion. Her family rushed to her side, holding her close and reassuring her with loving gestures. They found safety, but the emotional scars of that day ran deep.

In the wake of the earthquake, Hands for Charity decided to take action. We knew that the children who had experienced the earthquake needed more than just physical aid; they needed emotional healing and a sense of normalcy.

A few days later, Lamiaa and 75 other children from the affected area were invited to a special event — a fun day aimed at promoting healing and resilience. The event was a carnival of laughter, games, and activities designed to help these children forget their recent traumas, even if just for a little while. As Lamiaa stepped onto the grounds of the event, she was greeted with warm smiles and open arms.

Lamiaa’s face lit up as she explored the various activities. She painted vibrant pictures and crafted a colorful card for her mother, her laughter ringing out as the world spun around her. The day was filled with joy. As the day came to a close, Lamiaa felt something she hadn’t felt in a long time – hope. The fun day had not only brought smiles to her face but had also shown her that even after the darkest of days, there could still be moments of light and happiness. Lamiaa returned to the family’s tent, as their home was affected by the earthquake, that evening with a heart full of gratitude and a newfound sense of resilience. The scars of the earthquake would always be a part of her story, but now, she also carried with her the memory of a day when laughter and friendship had helped mend her wounded spirit.
