Revive the Sunnah
Revive the Sunnah
As we celebrate the blessed birth of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), we are reminded of his timeless legacy of compassion and generosity. This auspicious occasion falls near International Charity Day, creating a powerful opportunity to reflect on the core of our faith. The Prophet’s Sunnah is a guide for our lives, and through five specific acts of charity, we can revive his teachings in a way that truly transforms lives. At Hands for Charity, our mission is to embody this spirit of giving. Our projects are designed to cover most charitable aspects, reaching over one million beneficiaries in more than 15 countries, ensuring that your kindness honors his legacy and brings hope to those who need it most.
1. The Profound Reward of Caring for Orphans:
The Prophet (PBUH) held a special place in his heart for orphans, having experienced orphanhood himself. His profound statement — ‘I and the one who cares for an orphan will be in Paradise like this,’ as he joined his two fingers — highlights the immense reward awaiting those who nurture and protect these vulnerable members of our society. This Sunnah encourages us to actively seek out opportunities to support orphans, providing them with care, education, and a sense of belonging. At Hands for Charity, we are honored to sponsor over 3,600 orphans in Gaza and Lebanon, giving them a chance for a brighter future.
2. The Virtue of Quenching Thirst:
The Prophet’s (PBUH) saying, “The best charity is giving water to drink,” resonates deeply. Providing access to clean water is not merely an act of kindness; it is a life-saving necessity and a highly meritorious deed in Islam. This Sunnah inspires us to support initiatives that provide clean water sources to communities in need. We are proud to have completed over 150 water wells in Pakistan, Niger, Chad, and Gaza, transforming lives with every drop.
3. The Power of Sharing Nourishment:
The Prophet (PBUH) emphasized the importance of feeding the hungry, linking it to the very fabric of a just and compassionate society. His words, “O people! Spread (the greeting of) Salam, feed others, uphold the ties of kinship, and pray during the night when people are sleeping, and you will enter Paradise with Salam,” beautifully connect various acts of piety, with feeding the hungry as a crucial component. At Hands for Charity, we embody this Sunnah by providing food baskets, hot meals, and Aqiqah in Yemen, Lebanon, Gaza, Sudan, Syria, and other regions, bringing much-needed nourishment to those in crisis.
4. The Blessings of Easing Hardship:
The Prophet (PBUH) was deeply concerned with the well-being of his ummah and emphasized the reward for alleviating the burdens of others. He said, “..if one relieves a Muslim of his troubles, Allah will relieve his troubles on the Day of Resurrection; and if anyone covers up a Muslim (his sins)..” This Sunnah encourages us to extend a helping hand to those facing difficulties. Our Urgent Relief projects are a direct response to this call, providing immediate support to individuals and families facing extreme hardship and displacement due to conflict or natural disaster.
5. The Enduring Impact of Sadaqah Jariyah (Ongoing Charity):
The Prophet (ﷺ) taught us about the concept of Sadaqah Jariyah, a form of charity that continues to benefit the giver even after their passing. He said, “When a son of Adam (i.e. any human being) dies, his deeds are discontinued, with three exceptions: Sadaqah, whose benefit is continuous; or knowledge from which benefit continues to be reaped, or a righteous child who supplicates for him.” This Sunnah inspires us to invest in long-term charitable projects that will have a lasting positive impact, such as building schools and supporting sustainable development initiatives like our water wells, which continue to benefit communities long after their completion.
Conclusion:
By embracing these five beautiful Sunnahs related to charitable giving, we not only honor the legacy of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) but also actively contribute to building a more just, compassionate, and thriving society. Let us strive to make these teachings an integral part of our lives, recognizing that every act of kindness, no matter how small, holds immense value in the eyes of Allah.
